The ActivHeal® wound care dressing range is being used by a team of clinicians on Saint Helena, a small volcanic tropical island in the South Atlantic Ocean, 4,700 miles from our Winsford factory!
The island is a British Overseas Territory with around 4500 inhabitants. The island is home to one hospital and three community clinics where the team have been using ActivHeal® products on a variety of wounds including leg ulcers.
The ActivHeal® dressings take several weeks to reach the island arriving by ship once per month. The products in use on the island include our full range of fibres, foams and silicone dressings including our Antimicrobial Aquafiber® Ag and PHMB Foam.
“We have one hospital and three community clinics. The community team use ActivHeal products on a variety of wounds, mostly leg ulcers and have seen some positive results.”
As ActivHeal® customers, the community team on St Helena have full access to the ActivHeal Academy, our online education programme. The team have successfully completed many of the courses and are working towards completion of the higher tier modules which cover topics including wound assessment, dressing selection and pressure ulcers in depth.
The ActivHeal Academy allows clinicians to access the course content, test their competency and then receive a CPD certificate to help support their revalidation and Continuing Professional Development.
