Simplified Guides – a short, succinct guide to wound care
As part of our educational support, our Simplified Guides have been well received by clinicians. The Simplified Guides cover a range of topics and are aimed at providing clinicians with short, succinct pieces of information that helps to support and guide decision making in wound care.
We have recently begun to update our existing guides and we are now in the process of adding new simplified guides to the range. On the 14th February, we will be re-launching the first two simplified guides at the Journal of Community Nursing conference in Blackpool. The first two guides focus on Wound Assessment and Dressing Selection.
Wound Assessment Simplified Guide
Accurate wound assessment is paramount for effective wound management. Our Wound Assessment Guide maps out what an accurate wound assessment should look like and should include. A holistic approach is important and should include a comprehensive patient history, aetiology of the wound, condition of the wound bed and periwound area amount, colour, and consistency of exudate as well as signs of infection.
The Wound Assessment Guide takes clinicians through the stages of wound assessment, highlighting the wound signs and symptoms clinicians should be focused on, as part of their managed assessment and care plan.
Dressing Selection Simplified Guide
With an appropriate wound assessment conducted, the next step in wound management is the selection of an appropriate dressing. Selecting the correct dressing for a wound is a complicated process that requires knowledge of the various wound types and their differing characteristics, the dressing types available and any specific needs of the patient.
The Dressing Selection gives a clear guide of the types of wounds and the dressings available.
