An in vitro comparative assessment of the new Aquafiber Ag primary wound dressing
An in vitro comparative assessment of the new Aquafiber Ag primary wound dressing
ActivHeal® Aquafiber Ag was found to be 7.6% more absorbent and 36X stronger than Aquacel® Ag EXTRA and Aquacel® Ag respectively
Antimicrobial dressings such as silver dressings may be used as a barrier to microorganisms in wounds at high risk of infection or re-infection1. When a reduction in microbial load is required, the selection of antimicrobial dressings must also take into account the primary and secondary dressing requirements.2
Advanced Medical Solutions conducted an in vitro comparative assessment on the new ActivHeal® Aquafiber Ag primary wound dressing against two commercially available devices (Aquacel® Ag EXTRA and Aquacel® Ag).
ActivHeal® Aquafiber Ag was found to be 7.6%3 more absorbent and 36X3 stronger than Aquacel® Ag EXTRA and Aquacel® Ag respectively. When comparing the antimicrobial efficacy of the dressings, only Aquafiber Ag could produce a significant reduction in bacterial load beyond day 143, demonstrating, ActivHea®l Aquafiber Ag to be a stronger, more absorbent dressing with superior antimicrobial properties to similar market leading competitor products.
