Antimicrobial dressings such as silver dressings may be used as a barrier to microorganisms in wounds at high risk of infection or re-infection¹. When a reduction in microbial load is required, the selection of antimicrobial dressings must also take into account the primary and secondary dressing requirements.²

Advanced Medical Solutions conducted an in vitro comparative assessment on the new ActivHeal^® Aquafiber Ag primary wound dressing against two commercially available devices (Aquacel® Ag EXTRA and Aquacel® Ag).

ActivHeal® Aquafiber Ag was found to be 7.6%³ more absorbent and 36X³ stronger than Aquacel® Ag EXTRA and Aquacel® Ag respectively. When comparing the antimicrobial efficacy of the dressings, only Aquafiber Ag could produce a significant reduction in bacterial load beyond day 14³, demonstrating, ActivHea®l Aquafiber Ag to be a stronger, more absorbent dressing with superior antimicrobial properties to similar market leading competitor products.
